About the Presbyterian Church USA
|
|
The United Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (PC-USA), which currently the largest Presbyterian group in the country. There are over 11,000 PC-USA congregations in the
United States.
Many of our core beliefs can be traced back to John Calvin and the Protestant Reformation. We believe in the sovereignty of God, the divine authority of the Bible and the priesthood of believers. We believe that God is the consummate authority, and that salvation comes only through His grace when we enter into a relationship with Christ Jesus. While belief in Jesus leads us to good works, salvation is God’s generous gift to us. It cannot be earned through our own accomplishments.
We learn about God and His purposes through the scriptures, and rely on the New Testament to reveal the life and teachings of Christ, our savior. We believe that it is the job of ministers and lay people, alike, to share the Good News of the Gospel with the world. Because of this, our churches and our denomination are governed by men and women serving both as pastors and laity.
